The Classic Mountain Elegance project is featured in our portfolio and award submittal text is below.

Nestled at the base of Vail Mountain, this remodel was committed to harmonizing the old with the new. Drawing from Classical principles of symmetry and balance, yet challenged by existing structural constraints, the railings and laylights are more than functional elements; they are works of art that seamlessly integrate artisanship with classical design while embodying the cultivated spirit of Colorado’s refined mountain style.

Elevating the space with timeless appeal and grandeur, the laylight showcases exquisite bronze trim and frosted glass, bathing the staircase in soft, natural light. Engineered with structural steel to support the combined weight of the bronze and glass, this striking feature stands as the crown jewel of the space—an architectural statement of sophistication and style.

Beneath the laylight, the stair railing mirrors its geometry with precision. Extending forty linear feet, it is wrought in silicon bronze and enriched with turned balusters, escutcheon plates, spherical finials, culminating with an elaborate volute. To capture the elegant intent of the volute, the designer embraced the natural harmony of the Golden Ratio. With each 90-degree turn, the curve gently tightens, evoking the illusion of a spiral. From handrail to volute, the transition is seamless; a graceful, continuous sweep that flows like a ribbon caught in motion. Realized through an exacting process of design, rolling, casting, machining, patination, and installation, every element bears testament to the noble pursuit of beauty, structure, and tradition.
