The main fireplace in this private residence is the centerpiece of the home. It is hard to appreciate the grandeur of the 9’ tall set of stylized Aspen leaves without standing right next to them, and feeling the ½” thick steel elements tower above your head. This is the intent; to create a massive art piece, that is deceivingly delicate yet bulky. The ranch has large windows overlooking groves of Aspen trees and we sought to bring the beauty of the natural surrounding into the home, while interpreting it in a whole new way. This feature was cut by hand, using an oxy-acetylene torch, to create a purposefully heavily textured edge on the ½” plate. When viewed from the side, you’ll discover there are actually 2 layers of ½” standing with a ½” gap between them.
